Leno, Juana – Small Bowl with Rainclouds (1970s)

3"w x 2.5"h

$ 150.00

Juana Leno is one of the four revivalist matriarchs of contemporary Acoma pottery (including Marie Z. Chino, Lucy Lewis, and Jessie Garcia). She was a daughter of Lupita and Jose Vallo and learned to make pottery from her grandmother Eulilia Vallo. This small bowl is painted with rain clouds using red clay and fine-line designs.  The clouds extend down from the rim of the bowl.  While it is small, it is full of detail and amazingly thin-walled!  The bowl was traditionally fired, which gives it a slight coloration on the surface. The piece is from the early 1970s.  It is signed on the bottom, “Juana Leno”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is a creative piece of pottery by this important Acoma Pueblo potter!
