Lewis, Dolores – Bowl with Acoma Birds and Rainbow
Dolores Lewis is a daughter of renowned potter Lucy M. Lewis. Dolores is known for use of classic Acoma and Mimbres designs in her pottery. This bowl is a round shape. It is painted with three Acoma birds and plants. Over each of the birds is a rainbow pattern and there are rain clouds near the rim. There are four different clay colors used on the bowl. It is one of her more complex pieces. This bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Dolores Lewis” and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. While Dolores makes little pottery today, work remains some of the classic traditional pottery of Acoma pueblo.
