Emma Lewis was a daughter of noted potter Lucy M. Lewis.  This bowl is a classic of her style with thin walls and tightly painted designs.  There are four different animals encircling the bowl. There are antelope, deer and elk.  The bodies of each of the animals are painted with different designs.  The elk has an additional red clay slip for the body.  There is a cloud pattern extending down from the rim and a kiva step pattern extending up from the base.   The bowl is signed on the bottom, “Emma Lewis”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
