Lewis, Emma – Bowl with Mimbres Bird & Rabbit (1980s)
Emma Lewis was a daughter of noted potter Lucy M. Lewis. This bowl is larger in size painted with bee-weed (black). The design is a bird and a rabbit. It is inspired by a Mimbres bowl from the 1100s with a similar image (see the last photo). Lucy Lewis and her daughters began using Mimbres imagery in their pottery in the 1960s. The rim of the bowl has a rectangular lightning design. The bowl is signed on the bottom, “Emma Lewis”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
