This is a classic water jar by Eric Lewis.  It has a round shoulder and a short neck. The jar is fully painted with a full face of a bear on one side. Note how the shape of the bear head perfectly matches the shape of the jar!  As the jar is turned, there is additional swirling bird and lightning imagery.  It is a complex piece in design yet the imagery flows perfectly across the surface and matches the shape.  The strong graphics on Eric’s pottery give them a modernist appearance. However, look closer and you can see a variety of traditional designs that he has used for the designs that are all based on traditional Acoma patterns. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Eric Lewis 2021”.
