This is a classic water jar by Eric Lewis.  It has a high shoulder and a short neck. The jar is fully painted and there is a stylized dragonfly on one side.  The dragonfly is often considered the “prayer messenger” and Eric has depicted it surrounded by clouds and wind designs.  It is a complex piece in design yet the imagery flows perfectly across the surface and matches the shape.  The strong graphics on Eric’s pottery give them a modernist appearance. However, look closer and you can see a variety of traditional designs that he has used for the designs that are all based on traditional Acoma patterns. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Eric Lewis 2022”.
