Lewis, Lorraine Gala – “Mimbres Classic” Open Bowl

8.5"w x 3.25"h

$ 400.00

Lorraine Gala Lewis learned to make pottery at IAIA and from Nathan Begaye.  Her work focuses on pre-contact forms and designs, which she uses as a source of inspiration.  Each piece is coil built, painted, fired and then textured to give it a more historic appearance. This is one of her open bowls which is made in the style of Mimbres pottery from the 1100s. The bowl is intricately painted with fine-line and geometric patterns.  It is intriguing to see how the designs she revives are still used today by so many potters from Acoma, Laguna and other pueblos. The bowl is titled, “Mimbres Classic”.  It is signed on the bottom.
