Lewis, Nancy – Jar with Rain and Cloud Designs (1960’s)

3"w x 3"h

$ 125.00

Nancy Lewis was a Hopi potter from the First Mesa village Sichomovi. She was actively making pottery between 1960-1980. Her pottery is in the collection of the Museum of Northern Arizona. This small jar is slipped with white clay.  It is painted with bee-weed and a red clay slip. The jar has rain and cloud designs on the rim.  The body has stylized cloud and rain patterns.  It is a complex design for a smaller piece.  The piece was traditionally fired so there are slight blushes on the surface.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  There are some areas of fugitive black where it was not painted on heavily enough before firing.  It is signed on the bottom, “Nancy Lewis”.  Shipping is included.
