Lockwood, Carnation Martinez – Jar with Incised Mountain Designs

2.5"w x 2.75"h

$ 100.00

Carnation Lockwood was a daughter of Carpio and Fidelia Martinez and a sister of Juanita Martinez and Felicita Cruz. She was the mother of Bill and Micheal Lockwood. She began to make pottery when her mother Fidelia passed away. Carnation made “pinch pots” starting with a ball of clay, rather than the traditional coil method. She was also profiled in the book “Talking with the Clay”.  This small jar is polished red on the top and bottom and incised with a cloud and mountain design.  Note the precision of the lines on the design.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Carnation Lockwood”.
