Clauinda Lomakema is a Hopi potter from Sichomovi, which is the center village on First Mesa, Hopi.  She was part of the revival of Hopi pottery (mostly from Second Mesa) in the 1970s.  This bowl is slipped white and painted with bee-weed (black) and a red clay slip.  It has 16 different eagle tails encircling the shoulder of the jar.  Around the neck are tablita designs (the tablitas are worn on the heads of female dancers during dances).  Each is very intricately painted.  The jar was traditionally fired so there are light blushes on the surface.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Claudina Lomakema”.  There is an honorable mention ribbon from the 1989 Santa Fe Indian Market and the ribbon is signed by Kent McManis and Margaret Hardin (Bagshaw).
