Lonewolf, Joseph – “Flight” (1975), published in “Pottery Jewels”

2"w x 2"h

$ 3,300.00

Over the course of 20 years, we have only had a couple of pieces come back to the gallery which were originally published in, “The Pottery Jewels of Joseph Lonewolf” book in 1976.  This is one of the seminal books on his pottery.  The piece is very unusual in his etching style. The deer, tree and feather patterns are all deeply carved into the clay.  Note the precision of the carving in the legs and antlers of the deer and the branches of the tree!  The surface is then fully etched to create the detail.  The background matte areas are also fully etched with linear designs to enhance the polished surfaces and depth.  The seedpot is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It signed on the bottom in the clay.  It is very unique opportunity to own a piece of history by this important Pueblo artist!  The last photo is a picture of the piece in the “Pottery Jewels” book.
