$ 3,400.00

This is a classic miniature by Joseph Lonewolf from 1981.  He made many fewer pieces in black than in red.  This piece is fully incised with Mimbres inspired dancers encircling the piece.  The Mimbres people made some of the most exciting and refined pottery of the Southwest in the 1100’s.  Joseph felt a deep connection with the pottery of these ancient people.  He often created his own designs which were derived from the work on their open bowls.  There are eight highly polished dancers encircling the piece.  On the top are rain patterns along with some of the yearly symbols used on his pottery.  All the different colors are derived from natural clay slips.  It is is signed on the bottom in the clay.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
