Reyes Madelena (b. 1938) learned to make pottery from her grandmother, Benina Medina Madalena (Zia).  Benina married Ramon Madelena from Jemez Pueblo.  Reyes began making pottery in the 1950s.  This is a charming figurative piece.  There are a deer and log as the figures in clay.  There are additional painted clouds.  All the various colors are natural clay slips.  The figure is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Reyes Madalina”.   It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repairs.
