Maho, Garrett – Bowl with Rainbird and Bird Nest Design

4"w x 2.5"h

$ 300.00

Garrett Maho is known for his traditional and innovative Hopi-Tewa pottery.  This bowl has a rainbird painted on one side with its wings outstretched.  As the piece is turned, there is an opening in the bowl and it is surrounded by a checkerboard pattern.  This is the bird’s nest!  The bowl is painted with a deep red clay while the black is painted with bee-weed (a plant).  The bowl has been traditionally fired so that there are blushes on the surface.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Garrett Maho”.  Garrett most recently won “Best of Pottery” at the 2018 Heard Indian Market.
