Maho, Garrett – Large Jar with Awatovi Birds

9.5"w x 5"h

$ 1,200.00

Garrett Maho is known for his traditional and innovative Hopi-Tewa pottery.  This large jar has round sides and a short neck.  It is thin-walled and an elegant shape.  The entire surface is stone polished. The jar has four large birds painted with bee-weed and clay slips. The birds are painted in the style of birds from the Awatovi ruin murals. Next to them are insect designs.  The jar was traditionally fired and there are blushes on the surface.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Garrett Maho”.  Garrett has won numerous awards including the “Helen Naha” Award at Santa Fe Indian Market.
