Manygoats, Elizabeth – Red and White Rooster with Black Sneakers Clay Figure

4.25" tall

$ 80.00

Elizabeth Manygoats is a daughter of noted potter Betty Manygoats.  She is known for her folk-art style pottery with figures in relief or applique on the surface. Elizabeth says that she has a fondness for portraying horses, sheep, and chickens, the animals surrounding her as a child on the reservation.  This is one of her Folk Art style roosters.  The rooster is textured and painted deep red and white and wearing black Converse sneakers.  It is very whimsical!  After the firing, the entire piece is covered in pine pitch in the manner of traditional Navajo pottery.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “EM.”  Elizabeth has won numerous awards for her pottery over the years.  It can also be found in museums throughout the southwest.
