Manygoats, Larry Ben – Water Jar with Handles (1990s)

8"w x 7.5"h

$ 300.00

Larry Ben Manygoats is a son of Betty Manygoats and a brother of Rita and Elizabeth Manygoats.  Each piece is coil-built using traditional Navajo clay.  He was taught to make pottery by her mother.  This is a classic water jar with a sharp shoulder and a straight neck. The rim of the jar is undulating. There are handles and raised “rain” band around the top of the shoulder.  The jar was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  After the firing, it was covered in pinon-pitch in the manner of traditional Navajo pottery.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “L. Ben” It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
