Martinez, Anita – Black and Sienna Jar with Feather Designs (1970s)
4.5"w x 4"h
Anita Martinez was a granddaughter of Maria Martinez and a daughter of Santana & Adam Martinez. She was the mother of noted potter Barbara Gonzales and grandmother of Cavan Gonzales. This is a classic piece of her pottery with a sharp shoulder and sloping neck. The jar is highly polished and painted with a feather design in two sections. Separating the feathers are mesa, cloud, and lightning patterns. The jar was fired a glassy black and the rim was two-toned sienna. The bottom of the jar is indented and signed, “Anita Martinez”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
