Martinez, Maria – Clay Horno Oven (Maria + Santana, 1954-6)

3"w x 2.75"h x 4" long

$ 900.00

This is an unusual piece by Maria Martinez.  It was made and polished by Maria Martinez.  It is a small clay ‘horno oven”. The Horno Oven is usually made of clay on the pueblos and where bread is baked.  In the 1950s these were popular at the Pueblos as souvenirs or to be used as ash trays or incense burners.  This piece was definitely not used as it is in great condition.   The piece is highly polished and fired a deep black. It is a charming piece.  The horno oven is signed on the bottom in the clay,  “Maria + Santana”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
