McHorse, Christine -Micaceous Bowl with Turtle Lid (1986)

5.5"w x 6"h (w/ lid)

$ 2,000.00

Christine McHorse is well known for her sculptural pottery.  Each piece is coil-built and has very thin walls.  This lidded bowl is from 1996.  The bowl itself is very thin-walled and made with micaceous clay.  The piece is lidded with a turtle on the top of the lid.  The back of the turtle is etched with designs.  The mica clay is very reflective on this piece.  It is signed on the bottom of the bowl and on the bottom of the lid.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.   Christine had an amazing career and these early micaceous clay pieces evolved into her later reduction-fired (black) sculptural micaceous vessels seen in the book and exhibit, “Dark Light”.
