This an collaborative piece by Grace Medicine Flower and her father, Camilio Tafoya. It is from the early 1970s, and it was fired “black and red.” It is a distinctive firing technique where areas the piece (here, the top half) is covered before the manure is put on to turn it black. The bowl was made by Camilio and polished by Grace. She would then etch the designs into the clay before it was fired. This piece has a single opening on top. There is an avanyu etched into the clay above the shoulder and one below the shoulder . There is a single medallion that is red, while the remainder is black. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Grace Medicne Flower and Camilio Tafoya”. It is in excellent with no chips,cracks, restoration or repair.
