This jar by Grace Medicine Flower is from 1974.  She remains renown for her creative pottery.  The jar is fully polished.  There is a cloud pattern around the neck.  Around the shoulder are two large medallions.  Each medallion has two skunks as the design.  Separating them are sections, each with an avanyu (water serpent) and a single smaller medallion.  The smaller medallions each have a skunk as the designs.  Did you take a closer look at the skunks? They are each smelling the flowers!  It is definitely a very charming piece!  The designs were etched into the clay before the piece was fired.  Note the contrast of both matte and polished surfaces, along with the various depths of etching!  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Grace Medicine Flower”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
