$ 2,800.00

Grace Medicine Flower began her career making miniature pottery with incised designs.  This jar is from 1987.  It is a period when she was combining carved areas with etched designs.  The jar has a round shoulder and an elongated neck.  The jar is deeply carved with a feather and cloud pattern.  On one side there is a medallion wth an eagle.  The opposite side has a medallion with butterflies and flowers.  The feathers also have small areas of etched designs.  The jar has a long neck and there is a stopper that fits into the top.  It is also fully polsihed.  Grace always had an eye on the complete composition of a piece and made sure it was not just aesthetically pleasing but also technically precise.  Interestingly, Grace did all of her etching/sgraffito in the clay before the pieces were fired, which added to their overall difficulty.  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Grace Medicine Flower”.   It is a classic piece of her pottery history!
