Medina, Elizabeth & Marcellus – Jar with Hummingbirds and Lid

6.25"w x 9"h (w/ lid)

$ 375.00

Elizabeth Medina is known for her traditional style of Zia pottery.  Each piece is coil built, painted with native clays and native fired.  This jar is intricately painted by her husband, Marcellus Medina.  Marcellus is certainly at his best when he is reviving historic Zia styles.  The jar is painted above the shoulder with flying hummingbirds and additional birds.  Below them are water and plant designs.  The lower half of the jar has very old style Zia designs with the rainbows and rain birds swirls.  Note in the various color of clay slips that some are polished and some are matte!  The base of the jar is polished.  The jar has a lid with a small bear.  It is painted with a bird and flowers on a red polished flat surface. The jar is signed on the side “Elizabeth + Marcellus Medina, Zia”.
