Medina, Elizabeth & Marcellus – Jar with Zia Birds, Butterflies and Lid

6.25"w x 9.25"h (w/ lid)

$ 400.00

Elizabeth Medina is known for her traditional style of Zia pottery.  Each piece is coil built, painted with native clays and native fired.  This jar is intricately painted by her husband, Marcellus Medina.  Marcellus is certainly at his best when he is reviving historic Zia styles and painting “realism”.  The neck of the jar has rain clouds.  There are more stylized butterflies on two of the sections.  They are separated by larger Zia birds.  The birds are both polished tan and matte.  Note in the various color of clay slips that some are polished and some are matte!  The base of the ajr is polished.  The jar has a lid with a small bear.  It is painted with a bird and flowers on a red polished flat surface. The jar is signed on the side “Elizabeth + Marcellus Medina, Zia”.
