Medina, Elizabeth & Marcellus – Jar with Zia Birds, Rainbow and Lid

6.5"w x 9"h (w/ lid)

$ 400.00

Elizabeth Medina is known for her traditional style of Zia pottery.  Each piece is coil built, painted with native clays and native fired.  This jar is intricately painted by her husband, Marcellus Medina.  Marcellus is certainly at his best when he is reviving historic Zia styles.  The jar has Zia birds on each side and they are both different.  They are painted with red and tan clay slips, which are then polished.  Above the birds is the classic Zia rainbow, which is polished.  Separating the larger birds are smaller hummingbirds.  They are painted with rainclouds and plant designs.  It is a very fully designed and complex jar for the size!  The base of the jar is polished.  The jar has a lid with a small bear.  It is painted with a bird and flowers on a red polished flat surface. The jar is signed on the side “Elizabeth + Marcellus Medina, Zia”.
