Medina, Elizabeth & Marcellus – Small Jar with Deer and Deer Dancer

4"w x 4.25"h

$ 300.00

This is a detailed jar by Elizabeth Medina and her husband Marcellus Medina.  Elizabeth is known for her traditional style of Zia pottery.  Each piece is coil built, painted with native clays, and native fired.  This jar was made by Elizabeth and intricately painted by her husband, Marcellus Medina.  Marcellus is certainly at his best when he is reviving historic Zia styles and painting Zia Pueblo dancers.  The jar has a deer dancer on one side and a stylized deer on the opposite side.  The neck of the jar is polished red.  Separating them are classic Zia eagle feather patterns.  The detail on the Deer Dancer is exceptional!  The jar is signed on the bottom “E + M Medina, Zia”.
