John Montoya was one of the few potters from Sandia Pueblo. It is one of the smaller pueblos in New Mexico.  This tall jar is polished red and painted with black and white clays for coloration. The jar has a kiva step or cloud design on the rim.  Around the neck are eagle and cloud designs.  Below the shoulder are eagle feathers and near the base are clouds and mountains.  There is a lot of intricate and creative design on the jar.  It is signed on the bottom, “John Montoya”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
