Moquino, Jennifer – Carved Jar with Phoenix
4.25"w x 6.5"h (w/lid)
This is Jennifer Moquino’s first jar which she has carved. The jar was carved before it was fired and she has created the design of a Phoenix. The bird and its feathers spiral around the jar. The area in the background is fully designed with cloud patterns. The flowers have an exceptional relief style of carving. Surrounding the bird are flames (in micaceous clay) and spirals of branches. The bird is etched with design and then additional clay slip are used to highlight the wings and head for color. The lid is fully polished and there is mica on the finial. All the colors are from natural clay slips. It is an exciting change to see Jennifer begin carving into her pottery and the results are certainly exceptional!
