Moquino, Ty – “Journey” Clay Mask

6.25"h (8.5"h w/ museum mount)

$ 1,600.00

Ty Moquino is the 20-year-old son of noted potter Jennifer Tafoya.  This is one of his clay masks.  They are inspired by the science fiction he has read, along with being a commentary on the environment, sustainability, and Indigenous Futurism.  This mask is entitled, “Journey”.  The mask and front are stone polished, while sections around the eyes are slipped with mica.  There is a section with gold leafing as part of the design.  It is a classic piece of his art with multi-levels and dimensionality.  It is great to see new work from his young potter.  Ty won the “Best of Youth” award at the Heard Museum Indian Market in 2017 for one of his masks!  It is signed on the back, “Ty”.  A museum mount was made for this piece.
