Ty Moquino is the 20-year-old son of noted potter Jennifer Tafoya.  This is one of his new clay masks.  They are inspired by the science fiction he has read, along with being a commentary on the environment, sustainability, and Indigenous Futurism.  This mask is entitled, “Spaces”.  The mask has open spaces with the edges stone polished. The side of the mask has clay “spikes” that have gold leafing applied after firing.  The remainder is sanded to a smooth surface.  It is a classic piece of his art with multi-levels and dimensionality.  It is great to see new work from his young potter.  Ty won the “Best of Youth” award at the Heard Museum Indian Market in 2017 for one of his masks!  It is signed on the back, “Ty”.
