Naha, Burel – Seedpot with Spiders and Webs

4.5"w x 5"h

$ 875.00

This is an exceptional jar by Burel Naha.  He is the son of Helen “Featherwoman” Naha and a brother of Rainy Naha and Sylvia Naha.  While he no longer makes much pottery, he was well known for his intricately painted pieces and especially the use of the spider design.  This jar has two of his classic spiders, one on each side.  They are painted with rain and wing designs.  Separating them are elongated rain patterns.  Note how surrounding the spider he has created a “web” using bee-weed and stippling the design.   The piece is tightly painted and traditionally fired.  It is painted using bee-weed (black) on a white kaolin clay surface.  It is signed on the bottom with a feather and a Long Hair katsina, which is his hallmark.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
