Naha, Helen “Featherwoman” – Jar with Eagle Tail Design (1970’s)

5.25"w x 6"h

$ 900.00

This jar is by Helen “Featherwoman” Naha is a classic Hopi-Tewa cylinder shape.  It has tall sides and a slightly turned in rim. The jar is slipped with white clay and then painted with bee-weed and red clay.  The red clay color used on the rim of the piece is typical of her style from the early 1970s.  The sides have four eagle tails extending downward.  It is an elegant balance of form and design.  There is an interesting surprise about this piece, in that it is fully polished on the inside!  Helen would try and make the openings big enough that she could put her and inside and stone polish the interior.  The jar is signed on the bottom with a feather, which was Helen’s hallmark.  The jar is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
