5.25"w x 9"h

$ 1,200.00

Helen “Feather Woman” Naha was known for her traditional white-ware pottery.  This tall canister jar is from the late 1960s.  The shap[e is a difficult one to create and keep the sides even. The jar is painted with four hummingbirds.  Separating each bird is a rain pattern. The designs are tightly painted and flow from the neck to the base. The black painted rim is very reminiscent of earlier Hopi-Tewa pottery.  The piece is also polished on the inside!  The jar is painted with bee-weed (black) and a red clay slip.  It was traditionally fired and there are slight color variations from the firing.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom with her hallmark feather.
