Naha, Sylvia – Jar with Corn and Lizards

2.5"w x 4.25"h

$ 900.00

Sylvia Naha created pieces with the white clay polished surface painted with bee-weed (black) and native clay slips.  Throughout the 1980s, Sylvia was considered among the most innovative of the Hopi potters.  Her pieces were classic in form and amazingly intricate in design.  This jar has her iconic lizard and plant designs.  On two sides are corn plants.  Between them are two lizards.  The body of one lizard has tightly painted triangular geometrics to make the “scales”. The other lizard has larger geometrics highlighted with two different colors of clay. It is wonderfully painted and designed for the size.  The bottom of the jar is signed with a feather and an “S”.  The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
