Naha, Tyra – Jar with Lizards, Monogoye Katsina and Plant Designs

7.5"w x 3.5"h

$ 800.00

This new jar by Tyra Naha combines several variations of design.  Tyra is a daughter of Rainy Naha.   She learned to make pottery from her mother and continues to make traditional style Hopi-Tewa pottery in the style her grandmother, Helen “Feather Woman” Naha.  This jar has Mimbres style lizards on the top, in the manner of Sylvia Naha (her aunt).  The lizards circle most of the piece and their bodies are made of various Hopi-Tewa designs.  The various clays create different colorations.  There is a single medallion with a Lizard or “Monongoye” katsina.  It is a nice complement to the two other lizards and seems to complete the story.  The bottom has a rainbow and flower pattern.  It is painted in the style of her grandmother Helen “Featherwoman” Naha. The jar is traditionally fired and signed on the bottom with a feather and spider (Spider Clan ) and a “3” for being the Third Generation of the Naha family.
