Namingha, Jocelyn Quam – Jar with Star and Mountain Designs (1990s)

4.25"w x 4.5"h

$ 650.00

Jocelyn Quam Namingha is the wife of noted potter Les Namingha.  This jar is coil-built, stone polished, and painted with bee-weed (black) and polished red clay areas. The jar is thin-walled and has a star pattern when looking down from the top.  There is a mountain design separating them with the angular “mesas” in black and red.  Note in one area on the star is a thin line extending downward.  This is the “spirit line”, which is seen in Zuni pottery, and her way to connect that with her use of Hopi clays on this piece.   It is signed on the bottom, “Jocelyn Quam Namingha”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
