Les Namingha has, over the years, creatively changed his pottery with new painting and technical styles. This jar has a striking shape with a low shoulder and a second, higher shoulder. The jar has a stylized storage jar shape, which creates a lot of design space. The jar has a series of geometric pottery designs, Sikyatki-style birds, and pointillism bursts of geometric shapes. Note how all the designs are connected by thin lines in the background. Les said that he wanted to create the idea of motion as if they were a mobile spinning and turning across the surface. The kinetic appearance of the jar certainly creates that impression! The shape, designs, and complexity of the piece make it a significant work by Les. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Les Namingha”.
