Namingha, Les – “Chaos and Order and Chaos” Bowl

6.5"w x 6.5"h

$ 2,200.00

Les Namingha is known for his modernistic shaped vessels and painted designs.  He learned to make pottery from his aunt, Dextra Quotskuyva.  This bowl is a round shape but the focus is on the designs.  The bowl is entitled, “Chaos and Order and Chaos”.  Les said about this piece

“This year after Indian Market I decided to clean up my studio and fix up the yard.  I got it all cleaned up and now I can’t find anything! So much for organizing.  This piece is about the chaos that comes from trying to create order”.

The bowl has a dynamic coloration and various designs from Hopi lightning sticks to Hopi birds and geometrics.  Note how there are so many layers on the piece that does seem as if there is an attempt to organize the designs and they are purposefully creating chaos!  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha” 2019.
