Namingha, Les – “Checkerboard Sprials” Tall Jar
Les Namingha is known for his modernistic shaped vessels and painted designs. He learned to make pottery from his aunt, Dextra Quotskuyva. This jar has a checkerboard pattern around the neck. Below there are painted spiral which are both acrylic paint and mica sections. There are two bands of relief around the shoulder and the bottom has Les’s signature painted pathway designs. The combination of bold colors, various relief areas on the surface and tightly painted designs create a dynamic appearance. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha” 2019.
