Namingha, Les – “Clay Journeys” Wide Jar

9.5"w x 6.5"h

$ 4,400.00

Les Namingha is known for his modernistic shaped vessels and painted designs.  He learned to make pottery from his aunt, Dextra Quotskuyva.  This large jar is a classic Nampeyo shape with the wide, round shoulder and short neck.  The jar is painted around the shoulder with a band of linear geometrics.  There are two levels of painted designs which overlap and tell the story of the clay. The top and bottom sections have a textural appearance and there is just a bit of mica added.  The inside of the rim is burnished a deep brown which is a striking addition to the jar. There are subtle nuances of color and shine throughout the jar.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha” 2019.
