Namingha, Les – “Dragonflies and Rainbows”Contemporary Jar

6"w x 6.5"h

$ 2,400.00

This jar by Les Namingha is inspired by both Zuni and Hopi-Tewa imagery.  Around the side are dragonflies, which in Zuni are the prayer messengers.  They are painted in a Zuni style on the white background.  They are each separated by complex rain and cloud patterns.  The top of the jar has a series of “rainbows”.  One is multi-colored, two have Hopi-Tewa designs and the final one has a mountain pattern.  The background behind the rainbows is a mica slip.  It is the same on the bottom, which creates just a bit of texture.  The jar has a great balance of detail and open space, letting the designs speak well on the clay.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha  2020”.
