Namingha, Les – “Earth Layers” Jar

6.5"w x 8"h

$ 3,000.00

Les Namingha is known for his modernistic shaped vessels and painted designs.  He learned to make pottery from his aunt, Dextra Quotskuyva.  This jar is a round shape and short neck. The jar is painted with a variety of layers and colors from top to bottom. There is additional mica added in areas along with some texture.  The horizontal bands are the “earth layers” of digging down into the clay as part of the process of being a potter.  As you near the base you can see the blue for the water as well as the rectangular Pueblo doorway.  The rim is burnished a brown coloration.  It is a striking jar with colorations and designs which match the modernist shape.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha” 2019.
