Namingha, Les – “Four Seasons Hopi Birds” White Jar

10.5"w x 6"h

$ 6,500.00

Les Namingha is known for his modernistic shaped vessels and painted designs.  He learned to make pottery from his aunt, Dextra Quotskuyva.  This large jar is a classic Nampeyo shape with the wide, round shoulder and short neck.  The jar is painted in various layers with a base of white and then colored geometric shapes. The top layer has four Hopi birds.  Each bird is layered over a particular color for the four seasons.  The birds are very intricately painted with traditional Hopi designs filling in the bodies and wings.  The jar is elegant in form, color, and design.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha” 2019.
