Namingha, Les – “Katsina & Birds” Jar

7"w x 7.5"h

$ 3,000.00

This is a creative jar by Les Namingha.  He learned to make pottery from his aunt, Dextra Quotskuyva and is known for his innovative forms and designs.  The background color of this jar is a rose-red, and it is highly sanded/polished for a very smooth surface.  The designs are in four sections and are deconstructed Pueblo and Hopi imagery.  There is a katsina, avanyu and two birds.  Les has focused on the geometric design elements of each of these figures and deconstructed them into their basic elements. The colors emphasized the various geometric designs.  It is a creative and dynamic jar.  Connecting all the imagery is a lightly painted series of geometric Pueblo patterns that tie it all together!  Definitely interesting to see how he takes classic imagery and modernizes it in his style and grows with each piece.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha” 2019.
