This is an intricately painted jar by Les Namingha.  The shape is his stylized form with a round body.  The body of the jar is painted a blackish color with just a bit of mica.  There are numerous fish on the jar and they are inspired by the Mimbres pottery of the 1100s.  Each fish is tightly painted onto the clay surface.  The contrast of the white outlined fish on the black ground gives a very modern appearance to the jar.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha  2020”.
