This classic jar by Les Namingha.  The shape is an elegant form with a round body and an elongated neck.  The body of the jar is slipped with a mica clay, which has just a bit of texture.  The jar draws inspiration from different ancient types of pottery.  On one side there is a large Mimbres fish.  The fish is sanded and buffed and has a very smooth feel.  As the jar is turned, there are more fish evolving from simple and stylized to modern and colorful.  The designs on the jar almost seem to follow Les’s dynamic as an artist, drawing from ancient designs (the Mimbres fish) and ending with very modernist interpretations using color and line.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha  2020”.
