Namingha, Les – “Summertime Flight” Jar

8"w x 8.25"h

$ 4,000.00

Les Namingha is known for his modernistic shaped vessels and painted designs.  He learned to make pottery from his aunt, Dextra Quotskuyva.  This larger jar has a high shoulder and a short neck. The entire piece is fully painted with a variety of bird wings.  The colors are overlayed and there is a kinetic sense of motion across the surface of the piece.  The idea is as if birds are in flight and everything from their wings to the sun, sky, and grass can all be seen. The bird wings are stylized and angular, in the Hopi style.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Les Namingha” 2019.
