Namoki, Lucas – Antelope and Deer Dancer Relief Jar (1980s)
Lucas Namoki (b. 1945) is from Kykotsmovi Village at Hopi. This jar is from the 1980s when he was making pottery. While he no longer makes pottery, it is a striking and creative piece. The jar is polished and on the sides, there is an antelope and a deer dancer on the opposite side. They are in relief and slipped with red and white clay slips. Note the detail on both the figures. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Lucas Namoki”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
