$ 115.00

Carla Claw Nampeyo is a daughter of noted potter Thomas Polacca and a granddaughter of Fannie Nampeyo. She is also a great-granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano. Her brother is Gary Polacca and she is married to Raul Claw (Navajo).  She is known for her incised pottery and the use of slips that give the appearance of wood to the surface of her pottery. This tall seepdot has a Comanche Katsina as the design.  It is a full figure.  The opposite side has a prayer feather bundle carved into the clay.  It is said of the Comanche Katsina:

“The Comanche (Komantsi or Tutumsi) pays tribute to the Comanche warrior and his powerful presence. He appears at the Mixed Dances.  It represents a neighboring tribe of the Hopi, which is the Comanche Tribe.”

The jar is signed on the bottom, “Carla Nampeyo”.
